What is the difference between IT foundation and CC cream?
Sign up for our free IndyBest email – As a beauty journalist, I’ve tried many, many foundations, from eye-watering expensive formulas to brilliant budget buys. I’m a fussy reviewer too, as I’ve always had hormonal acne on my chin, an oily, blackhead-prone T-zone and dry cheeks.
- For years as a teenager and young adult, once I’d switched from religiously slathering on Maybelline’s dream matte mouse, I always gravitated towards the full coverage, 24-hour wear matte formulas that were thick and heavy.
- That was until I tried the IT Cosmetics your skin but better CC+ cream original SPF 50+, a cult favourite among fellow beauty writers.
- Typically I always steered away from any product claiming to give a dewy finish, as when you’re oily, the last thing you want is even more shine, so I approached the lightweight texture with some scepticism and emerged with a new hero product.
Having had a permanent position in my make-up bag since 2017, when I saw the brand was launching a new foundation, I had to put it to the test. Putting them side by side, I’ve compared the two to see if the brand’s latest offering is worth switching to, or whether it’s best to stick to my all-time favourite CC cream.
Testing them on staying power, ease of application, finish, texture, buildability and shade range, this is my honest review. You can trust our independent reviews. There are not enough words to encapsulate my appreciation for this product, but allow me to condense my love for it. As a CC cream (which stands for colour correction or colour control) it’s not technically a foundation, as it’s a lighter texture that reduces the appearance of redness, sallowness and uneven skin tone.
- Retailing at £32, it is on the pricer end, but its brilliance for me lies in its medium coverage formula that evens out my skin tone and lasts all day.
- I like to apply all my base products with a damp sponge as I find I can press it into my skin for a more even, flawless finish and reach all the nooks and crevices around my nostrils, eyelids and lips.
- A pump and a half is enough to cover my whole face and it immediately covers up redness on my cheeks and nose and instantly gives me a subtle glow on the top of my cheekbones that I would normally try to emulate using a highlighter.
What sets this apart from every other foundation I’ve tried is its staying power. Through thunderstorms, heatwaves, wild nights out and long days in the office it does not budge, nor does it cake, end up patchy or gather in drier areas of my face. There’s no other product I’ve tried that I can rely on, no matter how oily I get.
- My only gripe is that it’s only available in 12 shades, which is a poor offering, especially for dark skin tones.
- While the brand is slowly expanding its range, there’s no excuse not to be catering to everybody.
- The tube packaging is lightweight and easy to travel with, being slimline enough to fit into my liquids bag at airports, and many a time I’ve cut it open to use up every last drop.
It’s worth every penny. £32 Cult Beauty }
Is it Cosmetics silicone based?
Where to buy – It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better Makeup Primer is a new “makeup gripping” facial primer. I didn’t feel this extended the wear of my foundation but it is very, very moisturizing which makes it a great base for matte foundations or for anyone with drier skin.
Highly moisturizing! Absorbs easily. Wears well under foundation.
Makes skin oily/greasy in the warmer weather. Not ideal for oily skin. Didn’t extend foundation wear. Felt like it made foundation fade a little faster.

How do you tell if a product is water or oil based?
Pros & Cons: Water Based vs. Oil Based Skincare Products I walk into any beauty counter and it’s instant overwhelm. Even the smallest skincare store can become a confusing maze of product choices for me. The beauty industry is so huge, with so many companies and more entering the market every month that choosing products can be really difficult.
- Topical skincare products fall into two main categories: water based skincare and oil based skincare.
- Water based skincare products contain mostly just that.water.
- Oil based skincare products contain no water and are made of oils.
- You can tell which type of product it is by looking at the ingredient label.
If water is listed as an ingredient in your product, it is a water based product. It also is considered a water based product if the ingredients list juice, aloe vera, or tea, or anything that is typically made mostly of water. The FDA requires that ingredients in any skincare product be listed by volume – that means the largest ingredient is listed first and the smallest last.
